Welcome to Burera Hospital, snuggled up in the lovely yet chilly mountains of Rwanda. In a country where 1 in 10 babies die before their 1st birthday, low mountain temperatures can be deadly. Warm beanies are a simple way to help our newborns and improve child survival. Thus was born HotHeads Knitters. Our mission is to put a warm, stylish beanie on every baby as soon as they are born--as is done in US hospitals. Here we will share ideas from our knitters, and and stories of your work in use!

I heard that quads were born at the clinic. How are they? Are they boys? girls? some of both? Did they go home with hats? Pictures?
Hats should be made to fit preemies (size of an orange) and full term newborns (size of a grapefruit). All beanie styles and colors are welcome. Gifts of blankets and clothes, whether hand-knit or not, are also greatly needed.
We will arrange shipping from Boston to northern Rwanda, or any other Partners In Health site in need of hats. And, of course, we’ll post photos and stories of your work in use!
